GlenAran is a brand passionate about Irish Craft & Design inspired by the vision of Cork woman, Maureen MacCarthy.

Today the GlenAran Brand continues to grow and flourish under Maureen’s watchful eye and is as passionate about sourcing quality, colourful, handmade knits and unique and innovate, local craft as it is about telling the stories behind the artisans that are now part of the GlenAran family story.

With a long history in the craft industry, the Aran Sweater Market had a vision to provide quality Aran Sweaters that would stay true to the original product.

Through a combined passion for craft, a keen eye for quality and an ambition to celebrate the long and fascinating heritage of Aran, the Aran Sweater Market was born.

THE SWEATER SHOP – The Sweatershop is an Irish family run business which was established in 1986 by Dom Byrne who still runs the company to this day. The Sweater Shop is truly a family affair with Dom, his daughter Laura, daughter in law Kate, sister Breege and niece Alva involved in the business! The Sweatershop boasts a large selection of superb quality Irish Aran knitwear including the finest selection of Authentic Irish Sweaters at reasonable prices.

ARAN ISLAND KNITWARE – At Aran Islands Knitwear we specialise and stock a wide range of traditional Aran hand knitted and Aran hand loomed sweaters and cardigans. Beautifully made from the best aran yarns, our pieces are the hallmark of the traditions and craftsmanship for which this region, the Aran Islands, is renowned world-wide.

CLEO LTD – From the beginning, we have sourced the work of Individual and small scale makers. We specialise in traditional hand mades from natural fibers (wool and linen). Above all, we are proud sellers of the work of gifted makers; wearable art to treasure and hand on.

KILKENNY SHOP – Kilkenny Shop has been at the forefront of promoting the finest Irish craft and design for over 50 years and is home to Ireland’s largest collection of Irish designers. From fashion, knitwear and accessories, to handmade jewellery, dazzling crystal, art, hand-thrown pottery and a wide range of gifts, you can be sure to find some wonderfully designed products at Kilkenny!

INIS MEAIN – Inis Meáin Knitting Company designs and produces individual, unique pieces of knitwear in the finest yarns, all exquisitely finished by hand. Our range is continually updated with new styles as well as variations on our customers’ old favourites. The authentic heritage, sophisticated design, beautiful yarns and impeccable finishing of Inis Meáin knitwear are appreciated by our customers around the world. Our range of styles continues to evolve as we explore the vast Aran knitting repertoire.

ARAN CRAFTS – Both our Aran Crafts and Nua collections are manufactured to the highest standards using the finest quality materials: merino wool, pure new wool, linen/cotton, cashmere and introducing new super-soft merino wool. BLARNEY MILLS – Whether you are looking for crafts, food, folklore or fashion, it’s all there under the rambling roofs of the old Mill. The core values that existed when Blarney Woollen Mills was first born are still an inherently important part of the business. We are proud to carry them with us to this day.

THE DONEGAL SHOP – The Donegal Shop prides itself on being a 100% Irish owned business. Established in 1995 by Carol Meagle, the shop is now run by Carol and her daughter, Linda-Mae Meagle. Based in the heart of Dublin 2. Carol took over the shop in 1995 when she fell in love with Irish crafts. This led her to Donegal to discover some of the products we still sell today, and begin a lifelong journey of sourcing new Irish Products. OMAILLE – The business has changed in many ways overs the last 75 years, and yet still holds on to much of the timeless charm that has made this family business so unique. We also sell unique product ranges from new Irish designers who make high-quality knitwear. However, we have found that traditional products, such as Aran sweaters and tweed jackets, are still our most popular items. From our first website, developed in 1996, we have evolved and in 2013 for the first time launched a fully operation e-commerce site, allowing us to reach customers and friends from all over the world.

THE SHEEP – Welcome to ‘The Sheep’, a store idea developed around ‘The Sheep, Hand Crafted in Galway’ a concept dreamed up by Raytus Gassner & Mark Tierney as an authentic and true hand crafted Galway made gift. The ‘sheep’ was chosen as the character due to Galway’s location, situated on the edge of Connemara where the sheep is the iconic image everyone seems to bring with. ‘The Sheep’ are hand produced in our studio located upstairs in The Sheep on Mainguard Street in the heart of Medieval Galway City. Available we have three sizes, small, medium & large, four characters, standing, looking eating & rocking and two colours, natural white wool & black, as every family has a ‘black sheep’.

KERRY WOOLEN MILLS – Kerry Woollen Mills is one of the last surviving traditional woollen mills still manufacturing in the beautiful Kerry countryside. Established over 300 years ago to alleviate local poverty the mill drew on the adjacent River Gweestin for the power to drive its machinery and the water to wash and dye its wool. The mill was bought over by the Eadie family in 1904 who had previously been in the woollen manufacturing business for many years in Fermangh and Scotland and continues under the fourth generation of family ownership to this day. The mill is set in a rural location with many of the three hundred year old buildings still standing and functional! The machinery has of course changed many times over the years!
